RADIATOR REPAIR

Radiator Repair and Replacement in Plano, Texas

Your vehicle's radiator is a type of heat exchanger that transfers heat from the hot coolant that flows through it to the air blown by the fan. The radiator is usually made from aluminum, which is flattened into sheets and then bent into a flat tube. If your radiator fails or wears out, the entire vehicle's cooling system is compromised. If you feel that your car is overheating, you can come to Sav-Mor Automotive in Collin County for a radiator repair today.

How does a radiator work?

Hot coolant, or antifreeze, flows into the usually aluminum radiator and the radiator cools the liquid down. The vehicle's fan also assists in cooling the hot coolant down, and the liquid flows back to the engine. This cycle repeats as you drive to keep your engine from overheating. Radiators also sometimes include a turbulator, or a fin that increases the turbulence of the coolant running through the radiator. Creating turbulence means that more of the coolant liquid will be exposed to the tube, thereby extracting more heat and cooling the liquid down faster.

As the radiator ages, mineral deposits from the coolant liquid builds up, in turn blocking the flow of fluid through the system. This will cause pressure in your vehicle's cooling system, which can damage the water pump, hoses, and thermostat. To make sure your vehicle's radiator is running as it should, you can bring your car to Sav-Mor Automotive. Serving residents of Plano, Richardson, Murphy, Lucas, Garland and beyond since 1963, we are experts in all things auto repair and can take care of your vehicle, bumper to bumper.

How do I know if my car needs a radiator repair?

Here are some signs that your Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, Honda, or anything in between, may need a radiator repair:

  • The temperature gauge reads hot.

If the temperature gauge on your dashboard constantly runs hot, you are either running low on coolant fluid or there is an issue with your radiator.

  • Radiator discoloration or rust.

If there is leak on your radiator, hot coolant fluid can burst out and land on engine parts. The liquid will bubble up and evaporate, leaving some discoloration and eventually rust.

  • Coolant leak.

If you see a bright green, sometimes yellow or pink, fluid leaking from your car, there is likely an issue with your radiator.

  • Overheating.

If steam billows out from under your hood, your vehicle is overheating which probably indicates radiator trouble.

If you are experiencing one or more of these signs, it is imperative that you bring your car in for a radiator repair and/or coolant exchange service as soon as possible. If you are in or near the 75074 area, you can come to Sav-Mor Automotive.
